Over the past few years a number of Operators in the Asia
Pacific area have gravitated towards small monobore wells
for cost effective drilling and completions. While there
are certainly cost benefits to the monobore well technique,
monobores face certain challenges which Owen Oil Tools has
been able to offer cost effective solutions for.
Monobore wells in the Gulf of Thailand are typically completed
with a co-mingling of zones from bottom to top. At times
certain productive zones begin to deplete faster than others
and produce excessive amounts of water. If these zones are

zones the more common practice of plugging back is not
an option. The Owen Oil Tools X-Span casing patch
is being used as the primary means of water shut-off. Charted
are a just few examples of success stories from the Gulf
of Thailand.

desired production because the perforation does not extend
beyond the damaged zone of the wellbore. Initial evaluation
of the StimTube Tool has begun to determine if it
can add productivity. Although field data is limited at
this time,

Another challenge for the small monobore wells is that it
is not possible to run large diameter, deep penetrating,
high shot density perforating guns. At times this results

the first trial resulted in an increase in production from
0.1 MMscfd to 1.1 MMscfd . The operators are encouraged
with this data and many more trials are planned soon.
