Owen Oil Tools’ HERO-HR™, SUPER HERO® and HERO® charges, due to their advanced, patented technology in liner material, leave the perf tunnel cleaner and more able to initiate and receive the frac job. Years ago, in an effort to increase penetration, charge manufacturers began adding tungsten to the powdered metal blends used in making liners for deep penetrating shape charges. This tungsten added mass to the jet stream and extended the reach of the perforation tunnel. More and more tungsten has been added over the years to get an extra inch or two of penetration. In fact, liners in today’s charges weigh twice as much as liners in the pre-tungsten days. Though there has been considerable improvement in shape charge penetration, the added tungsten has produced undesirable debris in the perf tunnel. As the jet tip of the charge slows down, the tungsten begins to pile up on itself, leaving a dense, malleable solid in the perf tunnel. This type debris can render a perf tunnel ineffective. Owen’s patented liner in the HERO-HR™, SUPER HERO® and HERO® charges contain molybdenum, and have improved geometry to yield a larger perf tunnel which keeps the spent tungsten from becoming a solid. When it comes to lower break down pressures and putting the frac job away, deep penetration is good, but Owen’s HERO-HR™, SUPER HERO® and HERO® charges give you a more “effective” deep penetration.
