"The multi-dimensional metal to metal X-Span™ technology seal is rated for all well temperatures and conditions, yielding the highest burst and collapse pressure ratings."

Technical Specifications

Owen Casing/Tubing Patch using X-Span™ technology provides a permanent seal over perforations, splits, corrosion and/or leaks in all types of tubulars. These patches can be run in any type of well including horizontal, multi-lateral, slim hole, monobore or geothermal. Owen patches have been proven both economical and reliable when used in water shut-off or zonal isolation applications. The large bore assures easy passage of tools including Magna Range bridge plugs, large seal bore assemblies, logging tools (including production logging), coil tubing, and perforating systems.

The multi-dimensional metal-to-metal X-Span™ technology seal is rated for all well temperatures and conditions, yielding the highest burst and collapse pressure ratings. It is single-tripped and can be run in extended lengths of over 200 feet. It is the only system that can be "purpose built" using premium alloys and/or customized for well restrictions or increased pressure ratings.

The Owen Patch can be conveyed on Electric Line, Slick Line, Tubing, Drillpipe or Coil Tubing.Well interventions can be performed whether the well is flowing or static.

The Owen Patch is easily set using a multi-stage explosive or hydraulic setting tool. The setting tool is retrieved directly after the setting process is completed, all in the same operation.

The explosive setting tool can be ignited electrically (on e-line), on slickline (using the Owen "SL" Firing System), mechanically on pipe (drop bar) or hydraulically on pipe(circulating pressure utilizing a ball seat or positive pressure). An EFI Safety Interlock Detonator is available for e-line applications.

The hydraulic setting tool is functioned with direct pressure in the work string over and above hydrostatic pressure at the tool or utilizing a ball seat and circulating pressure.

Applications include:

  • Water Shut-off/Zonal Isolation
  • Liner Lap Sealing
  • Velocity Strings
  • Sump Packers
  • Casing/Tubing Repair
  • Hanger Systems for Gravel Packing
  • Large ID PBR's
  • Can include Profile Nipples and Sliding Sleeves

Figure 1 - Running in the Hole

The Owen Casing/Tubing Patch can be conveyed on Electric Line, Slick Line, Tubing, Drillpipe or Coil Tubing.

Figure 2 - Setting the Patch

Once on depth, the power charge and the setting tool is triggered (as is pictured). The power charge generates gas pressure on multiple pistons driving the connecting rod upward against the setting sleeve, forcing the swages to expand the X-Span seal against the inside wall of the casing or tubing. (Hydraulic setting tools are also available).

Figure 3 - Shearing the Collet

The Patch is set once the X-Span seal is fully engaged against the wall of the casing or tubing. Continued upward force on the connecting rod shears the collet assembly (located in the bottom swage) releasing the setting tool assembly from the Patch.

Figure 4 - Pulling Out of the Hole

Once the collet section is disengaged, the setting tool assembly is pulled to surface and the X-Span Patch is secured in place.
