Coal & Shale Gas Desorption
- Wireline Cores
- Conventional Cores
- Sidewall Cores
- Drill Cuttings
Entrada GeoSciences measures desorbed gas content of coals and shales using
samples obtained from conventional cores, wireline-retrieved cores, sidewall cores,
or cuttings. A mobile desorption laboratory is set up in the field. Samples of
coal or shale are collected fresh from the well-bore and placed in pressure canisters.
The canisters are placed in temperature-controlled water baths at reservoir or near-reservoir
conditions. Desorbed gas measurements are made at timed intervals for twelve to twenty-four
hours after being collected. The canisters are moved to our laboratory for continued desorption
until the sample is depleted of gas after the initial gas measurements. Gas-in-place calculations
are made once the gas content of the coal or gas shale is known.
