The LEM-4100 instrument is designed to measure the static or dynamic friction factors of various drilling fluids and additives against steel casing and core samples. A simulated drill bit is contained in a chamber for testing at pressures to 1,000 psi and temperatures to 400°F (200°C). The drilling fluids can leak-off through the test core sample and allow a filter cake to build up on the core sample. This filter cake can then be tested against the simulated drill bit. The instrument is automated for easy operation.
