Fracture Studies

Fracture Studies
Measurement of fractures, slickensides and associated striae is accomplished using a state-of-the-art electromagnetic goniometer. The natural densities of the total and dominant fracture types identified (presented as 1:200 fracture density log) are calculated, and a description of each fracture with respect to its condition, origin and any fluid or mineral fill is developed. Provided on unslabbed conventional core. Includes determination of fracture class (i.e. natural or induced during coring) and type of fractures. Assessment of fracture morphology and identification of surface ornamentation (slickensides, mineralization); Measurement of length and width of fractures, strike and dip azimuths, and dip angles; Identification of fracture filling mineralization and estimation of degree of healing caused by mineralization. Strike and dip azimuths are reported in tabular form and graphical form (rose diagrams).

Histograms are provided showing dip angle distribution. Rose diagrams can be plotted on lithology logs if fracture analysis is done in conjunction with conventional core description. This can be combined with circumferential photography of the core to directly relate the data to downhole FMI logs.
