Core Laboratories successfully completed an offshore plug and abandonment project on a Gulf of America well using its proprietary PAC™ technology, enabling safer and more efficient annular access for permanent barrier placement.
Offshore plug and abandonment operations often require section milling to access annular spaces, a process that can introduce operational risk, extended timelines, and cost uncertainty. PAC™ technology provides an alternative solution that helps operators reduce risk while improving execution efficiency.
“The PAC™ system’s debut in the Gulf of America proves we can reliably provide access for hard-to-reach annuli with a precision-engineered circulating solution. We didn’t just cut timelines but fundamentally de-risked the operation from inherent unpredictability associated with section milling. It’s a win for efficiency and a major step forward in expanding Owen Oil Tools’ efforts to address the ever-growing asset retirement obligations for operators.”
Jeff Harts, Regional Sales Representative, Owen Oil Tools

The PAC™ system was selected to enable annular access in an environment where conventional section milling presented elevated operational challenges. The precision-engineered circulating solution allowed the operation to be completed in approximately four days, exceeding client expectations.
Based on typical offshore milling durations and current day rates, PAC™ technology is estimated to have reduced execution time by at least seven days and well cost by more than half a million dollars. With more than 700 deployments worldwide, PAC™ continues to expand into new markets and applications.
